Ο Αμερικανός δημοκρατικός γερουσιαστής R. Menendez της πολιτείας του New Jersey δέχθηκε σκληρή κριτική από την τουρκική οργάνωση "TURKISH COALITION OF AMERICA" για την στήριξη που παρείχε τόσο στο θέμα της Κύπρου, όσο και στο θέμα της αναγνώρισης της γενοκτονίας των Αρμενίων. Κατά την διάρκεια της ακροαματικής διαδικασίας, όπου επρόκειτο να εγκριθεί ο διορισμός της κας Κλίντον για την θέση της Υπουργού των Εξωτερικών, ο R. Memendez ζήτησε να θέσει ανάμεσα στις προτεραιότητές της την γενοκτονία των Αρμενίων και το Κυπριακό.
Το γραφείο της PSEKA στην Νέα Υόρκη, (International Coordinating Commitee-Justice for Cyprus) της πολύ γνωστής οργάνωσης για την προώθηση του Κυπριακού ζητήματος εξέδωσε το παρακάτω δελτίο τύπου, που αναφέρεται τόσο στην στήριξη που παρέχει ο γερουσιαστής στο θέμα της Κύπρου, όσο για την επίθεση που δέχτηκε από την Τουρκική Οργάνωση, ζητώντας να αποσταλεί ευχαριστήριο e-mail στον γερουσιαστή.
New York, NY – Senator Menendez, a staunch advocate of the Cyprus cause and one of the Hellenic American community's strongest friends on Capitol Hill, was attacked by the Turkish Coalition of America for his questions to then-Senator Clinton during the Secretary of State confirmation hearings.
The Turkish Coalition of America criticized Senator Menendez on their website for raising questions on the recognition of the Armenian genocide and the request that Cyprus should be a priority for the State Department. The Turkish Coalition accused Senator Menendez of "catering to ethnic politics at home".
The International Coordinating Committee Justice for Cyprus applauds Senator Menendez's courage and commitment to human rights and we are extremely proud that he asked those controversial questions during the hearings, and, as the world watched, showed his integrity and his dedication to what is inherently just.
