Η Ελληνική Ένωση της Αμερικής, HLA με υπερηφάνεια ανακοινώνει, την ετήσια Ακαδημαϊκή φετινή διάσκεψη για τη Μικρασιατική Καταστροφή, που φιλοξενείται από την Εταιρεία Ελλήνων του Πόντου του Σικάγο, το Σάββατο 7 Νοεμβρίου 2009. Η εκδήλωση, η οποία είναι συν-χρηματοδοτούμενη από την Παν-Ποντιακή Ομοσπονδία των ΗΠΑ και του Καναδά, το Σύνδεσμο Ελληνικών-Midwest και την Ομοσπονδία της Ελληνοαμερικανικής Οργάνωσης «Ένωσις», θα επικεντρωθεί στις εμπειρίες των Ελλήνων που ζουσαν στην Οθωμανική Μικρά Ασία, τον Πόντο, και την Ανατολική Θράκη κατά τη διάρκεια της Γενοκτ ονίας του Ελληνισμού. Η συνέχεια της Διάσκεψης του περασμένου έτους, στην οποία δημοσιοποιήθηκαν διάφορα σημαντικά θέματα, που επιλαμβάνονται του αγώνα, για την αναγνώριση της γενοκτονίας μας. Το Φετινό Πάνελ, θα εποπτεύεται από το Διευθυντή του Ινστιτούτου Zoryan του Τορόντο του Καναδά, κ. Γιώργο Shirinian.
Είναι χαρακτηριστικό, ότι θα συμμετάσχουν γνωστοί ακαδημαϊκοί, όπως ο Δρ Taner Akcam, από το Πανεπιστήμιο Clark, που θα παρουσιάσει το θέμα «Η ελληνική απέλαση και οι σφαγές του 1913-1914 – Η Πρώτη Εκτέλεση για τη Γενοκτονία των Αρμενίων».
Επίσης, Συντονιστής του συνεδρίου, θα είναι ο Δρ Κωνσταντίνος Χατζηδημητρίου από Πανεπιστήμιο St Johns, που θα παρουσιάσει το θέμα «Επίσημες και Ανεπίσημες Αμερικανικές Αντιδράσεις για την Καταστροφή της Μικράς Ασίας», "τι δικαιολογίες αποκαλύπτει".
Ο Δανός Ιστορικός και Ερευνητής Matthias Bjornlund θα παρουσιάσει το θέμα «Οι διώξεις των Αρμενίων και των Ελλήνων στη Σμύρνη, 1914-16: Μια ειδική περίπτωση παρατεταμένων γενοκτ ονιών, κατά τη διάρκεια της Οθωμανικής Κυριαρχίας».
Από το Haverford College, ο Δρ Αλέξανδρος Κιτροέφ θα παρουσιάσει το θέμα «Τα δεινά των Ελλήνων προσφύγων μετά τη διάλυση της Οθωμανικής Αυτοκρατορίας».
Και επίσης από το Purdue University, ο Δρ Βαν Coufoudakis θα παρουσιάσει το θέμα, «Οι σκόπιμη και συστηματικές π αραβιάσεις, των διεθνών συμφωνιών από το 1923, από τη πλευρά της Τουρκίας».

Εμείς, στην Ελληνική Ένωση της Αμερικής (H.L.A.), θα θέλαμε να ενθαρρύνουμε, όλους όσους μπορούν να συμμετάσχουν στη διάσκεψη, για να ευχαριστήσουν με τη στήριξή τους, τη "Κοινωνία των Ελλήνων του Πόντου του Σικάγο", στις προσπάθειές της για να βοηθήσει στην παραγωγή των απαραίτητων ακαδημαϊκών συζητήσεων και στη δημοσίευση υλικού, σχετικά με την Γενοκτονία σε βάρος των Ελλήνων του Πόντου. Annual Academic Conference on the Asia Minor Catastrophe

 

The Hellenic League of America, HLA is proud to announce this year's annual Academic Conference on the Asia Minor Catastrophe, hosted by the Pontian Greek Society of Chicago, on Saturday November 7th, 2009. The event, which is co-sponsored by the Pan-Pontian Federation of USA & Canada, the Hellenic Link-Midwest and the Federation of Hellenic American Organizations ‘Enosis', will focus on the experiences of Ottoman Hellenes living in Asia Minor, Pontos, and Eastern Thrace during the Hellenic Genocide. A follow-up to last year's Conference, which addressed several important issues dealing with the struggle for recognition of our Genocide. This year's panel will be moderated by the Director of the Zoryan Institute of Toronto Canada, Mr. George Shirinian. It will feature such known academics as Dr. Taner Akcam, from Clark University presenting on ‘The Greek Deportations and Massacres of 1913-1914 a Trial Run for the Armenian Genocide'. Also joining the conference will be Dr. Constantine Hatzidimitriou from St. Johns University presenting on ‘Official and Unofficial American Reactions to the Asia Minor ‘Catastrophe', what the documentary evidence reveals". Danish Historian and researcher Matthias Bjornlund will present on ‘The persecution of Greeks and Armenians in Smyrna, 1914-16: A special case in the course of the late Ottoman genocides'. From Haverford College, Dr. Alexander Kitroeff will be presenting on ‘The plight of the Greek refugees after the break-up of the Ottoman Empire'. And also from Purdue University Dr. Van Coufoudakis will be presenting on ‘Turkey's deliberate and systematic violations of International agreements since 1923'.

 

We, at the Hellenic League of America, HLA would like to encourage all those able to attend the conference to please support the Pontian Greek Society of Chicago in their efforts to help produce the needed academic discussions and published material concerning the Hellenic Genocide. Only united can we as a people find justice and International recognition for the injustice suffered by all our ancestors from Eastern Thrace, Asia Minor and Pontos.
