Greek opposition leader Alexis Tsipras was one of the few European representatives in Caracas for President Chavez’s funeral. Our correspondent asked him how he saw Venezuela’s future.

“I believe that the current situation will continue but things won’t always be good for Venezuela and the Latin American countries, mainly because the global crisis will inevitably will begin to have an impact even if they haven’t had to impose their own austerity measures,” said Tsipras.

He added: “ Fourteen years ago six million people here were poor, today six million people have rights, they are equal citizens and that is Hugo Chavez’s greatest contribution.”
