American citizens still missing in Cyprus
Nearly 2,000 people went missing in Cyprus during the inter-communal fighting of 1963 to 1964 and Turkish invasion of 1974 (502 Turkish Cypriots and 1,493 Greek Cypriots).1 To this day, most remain missing.
In 1994, Congress passed and President Clinton signed into law Public Law 103-372, a bill directing the President to investigate the whereabouts of 5 missing Americans in Cyprus, report to their families and to the Congress the findings of the investigation, and return to the families the remains of the missing who are no longer alive. Twenty one years after the passage of the Act, the remains of only one of the five missing Americans have been found and returned.
Help keeping up the pressure and renew the efforts to find those missing in Cyprus. Their families deserve this closure. It’s 41 years overdue.
