Syria said Turkish artillery bombed a convoy of pro-regime forces as they entered the mainly Kurdish enclave of Afrin on Tuesday.

The fighters have arrived to support locals against Turkish aggression and to confront islamic State (ISIS) militants, the state-run Syrian Arab News Agency reported .

Media organisations covering the arrival of the fighters were also targeted by Turkey, SANA said.

“The popular forces will be involved in confronting the Turkish aggression and Daesh, defending Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and thwarting the attempt of the Erdoğan regime and its terrorist mercenaries who seek to occupy the area,” SANA’s reporter in the area said.
