Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has announced that Turkey is working hard to improve relations with Russia to the highest level, Turkish state news agency Anadolu said .

“Russia is a strategic partner to us,” he said.

“It is not that there are no countries and people who envy our close friendship and co-operation, but we will develop relations between our two countries and increase our co-operation on regional issues for stability in the region and for economic development.”

Çavuşoğlu described how Russia and Turkey were now co-operating in sectors from energy to agriculture and from tourism to defence, adding that Turkey was pleased to welcome over 6 million Russian tourists a year.

On the other hand, he came out against a military solution to Syria’s problems in the region of Idlib, saying that it would be a disaster for Syria if force were used there.
