NATO Secretary General attends seminar in Reykjavik

The Secretary General of NATO, Mr. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, will visit Reykjavik on 28-29 January 2009. He will attend the Seminar on Security Prospects in the High North, hosted by the Icelandic Government where he will deliver a key-note speech.

NATO Deputy Secretary General visits Kuwait

On 27 January 2009 the NATO Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Claudio Bisogniero paid an official visit to Kuwait, in the framework of the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative.


NATO Secretary General visits Pakistan

On January 22nd and 23rd, the NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer visited Pakistan. He met with President Zardari, Prime Minister Gilani, Foreign Minister Qureshi, Defence Minister Mukhtar and General Kayani, Chief of the General Staff, as well as other senior officials.


Conference in Turkey to examine NATO’s future

On 30-31 January in Belek-Antalya, Turkey, the Turkish Atlantic Council will hold the 17th International Antalya Conference on Security and Co-operation entitled, ‘’Changing Security Environment and a Renewed Transatlantic Vision for the 21st century’’.


NATO Friendly Force Tracker nominated for excellence award

The NATO Friendly Force Tracker programme has been nominated for outstanding contribution to the development of network centric operations. The system, which helps substantially reduce friendly-fire incidents, is being employed in Afghanistan to help NATO-led forces better coordinate their actions and reduce the possibility of casualties.


KFOR and EULEX carry out their first joint exercise

Good coordination was shown in the first-ever Kosovo Force (KFOR) – European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) exercise, which took place at the KFOR base Novo Selo, in Camp De Lattre De Tassigny. Several hundred soldiers and police officers took part in the scenario, which involved EULEX calling for KFOR support during a violent demonstration.
