17-year-old Peter Kondodiakis of Tarpon Springs retrieved the Epiphany cross on Tuesday, following in footsteps of his brother and father.
The celebration, headed by His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, began Tuesday morning at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral which quickly filled to capacity.
Kondodiakis received a special blessing. And, according to custom, the teen will be prosperous all year.
65 boys, ages 16 to 18, competed for the cross this year.
The weather is typically chilly during the annual celebration. But today, highs are in the 70's.
The water temperature was a warm 65 degrees.
