The usurpation of Greek Cypriot properties is not only a condemnable and dismissible act, but it is illegal. It is such acts of usurpation of Greek Cypriot properties which make the problem we are discussing now at the direct negotiations, the property issue, even more complex and difficult.  The Government Spokesman Mr Stefanos Stafanou made the above statement yesterday, invited to comment on press coverage according to which Mr Talat, Mr Soyer and Mr Ercakica have built vacation home on Greek Cypriot property.

Noting that there ought to be an investigation of the articles, Mr Stefanou added: “We are in the process of discussing the chapter on property, within the framework of finding a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem. We hope that all these problems will be dealt with effectively, he added, underlining that they were created by Turkish occupation, the de facto division and the fact that, as a result of occupation, the Republic of Cyprus is unable to exercise effective control over the occupied areas.
