“Documentary History of Greece: 1943-1951, Truman Doctrine and Marshall Plan” is the title of a new book by Photini Tomai, Director of the Service of Diplomatic and Historical Archives of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which she will present at a special book event and reception at the U.S. Capitol, on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. The book is dedicated to the American aid to Greece after the Second World War. Ambassador of Greece to the U.S. Vassilis Kaskarelis will also address the event.

Joining Tomai on her visit to Washington is Thanos Veremis, Professor Emeritus of political history, University of Athens and Vice-President of the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP), a leading Greek think tank.  Tomai and Veremis will present the book at a special event at the Woodrow Wilson Center, in a panel moderated by James G. Hershberg, Professor of history, George Washington University, on Thursday, March 8, from 4 to 5.30 p.m.

While in town, Professor Veremis will also address current political developments in Greece, at the Woodrow Wilson Center on Tuesday, March 6, at 1pm (“Changing Faces within the Greek Government: A discussion of the political fallout from the financial crisis”) and at the George Washington University, The Elliot School of International Affairs, on Friday, March 9, at 3 p.m. (“The Political and Social Antecedents of the Greek Economic Crisis”).
