Ιρακινός δημοσιογράφος αποκάλεσε «σκυλί» τον Αμερικανό πρόεδρο Τζορτζ Μπους και του


πέταξε τα παπούτσια του, στη διάρκεια συνέντευξης Τύπου στην Βαγδάτη. Ιρακινοί άντρες των δυνάμεων ασφαλείας και Αμερικανοί πράκτορες έπιασαν τον άντρα και τον έσυραν έξω από την αίθουσα, ενώ εκείνος αντιδρούσε και φώναζε.

Τα παπούτσια δεν πέτυχαν τον Αμερικανό πρόεδρο. Το ένα πέρασε πάνω από το κεφάλι του και έπεσε στον τοίχο, την στιγμή που ο Μπους χαιρετούσε τον Ιρακινό πρωθυπουργό Νούρι αλ Μαλίκι. Ο Αμερικανός πρόεδρος χαμογέλασε και είπε πως «δεν πειράζε», ενώ ο αλ Μαλίκι φαίνεται να πάγωσε.

Οι άλλοι ιρακινοί δημοσιογράφοι ζήτησαν συγγνώμη από τον Αμερικανό πρόεδρο για λογαριασμό του συναδέλφου τους που εργάζεται για την τηλεόραση.

Ο Μπους έφτασε στο Ιράκ σε μια αποχαιρετιστήρια επίσκεψη πριν αποχωρήσει από τον Λευκό Οίκο τον Ιανουάριο. Πρόκειται για την τέταρτη επίσκεψη του Αμερικανού προέδρου από το 2003 που έδωσε την εντολή για εισβολή στη χώρα.

Εγινε δεκτός από τον Ιρακινό πρόεδρο Τζαλάλ Ταλαμπανί. Μετά τους εθνικούς ύμνους, επιθεώρησαν τα τιμητικά αγήματα και εισήλθαν στην προεδρική κατοικία που βρίσκεται στο κέντρο της ιρακινής πρωτεύουσας.

Ο κ. Μπους είχε μεταβεί στο Ιράκ το Νοέμβριο του 2003 την ημέρα των ευχαριστιών, τον Ιούνιο του 2006, και τον Σεπτέμβριο του 2007.

Ο Αμερικανός πρόεδρος και ο Ιρακινός πρωθυπουργός υπέγραψαν τη συμφωνία που καθορίζει το πλαίσιο της αποχώρησης των αμερικανικών στρατευμάτων από το Ιράκ μέχρι το τέλος του 2011. Εβαλαν τη μονογραφή τους στην τριετή διμερή συμφωνία που ήδη είχε υπογραφεί στις 17 Νοεμβρίου από τον Ιρακινό υπουργό Εξωτερικών Χοσιάρ Ζεμπάρι και τον πρεσβευτή των ΗΠΑ στην Βαγδάτη Ράιαν Κρόκερ. Η συμφωνία επικυρώθηκε από το ιρακινό κοινοβούλιο και καθορίζει το πλαίσιο αποχώρησης των 146.000 Αμερικανών στρατιωτών.
