Secretary General visits Norway and addresses NATO parliamentarians

On 25-26 May 2009 the Secretary General of NATO, Mr. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, paid a farewell visit to Oslo. He held meetings with Prime Minister Stoltenberg, Foreign Minister Støre and Defence Minister Strøm-Erichsen. He was also received by His Majesty King Harald V.

NATO Task Force disrupts pirate attack

A Canadian frigate participating in NATO’s Operation Allied Protector off the coast of Somalia boarded two pirate skiffs on 24 May. A search of the vessels resulted in the seizure a significant stock of piracy equipment including arms and ammunition.

NATO sponsors cultural diplomacy in the Balkans

With the support of NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division, the Estonian NGO KinoBuss travelled throughout southeastern Europe from 14 to 26 May, teaching hands-on animation techniques and digital filmmaking to youngsters in the region.

Training to make a difference in NATO Response Force operations

Steadfast Juncture 09, a major NATO Response Force (NRF) certification exercise, is being held from 19 to 31 May at various locations in Belgium, Germany, Italy, Norway and Portugal simultaneously. The exercise is designed to train, validate and certify NATO´s Joint Command Lisbon to assume responsibility of the NRF from July 2009 to January 2010.
